If you are the kind of person who enjoys going on trips on your own, for whatever reason that may be, we are sure you will have noticed when booking a holiday additional supplements being added to the cost. Why is this the case? Are these supplements fair?
A single supplement is a premium charged to people for taking a room alone, with the cost tending to come from the aircraft provider, hotel or cruise ship. Most business models work on a pair travelling, which then incurs an extra charge for taking up a space for two.
This doesn’t seem fair and feels like a single traveller is being punished for travelling alone.
Grand UK's Way
Here at Grand UK Holidays, company founder Paul Bennett believed any supplement for a single traveller was not fair and we would do our best to banish this fee where we could.
In a recent interview with Silver Travel Advisor, Paul commented on the changes he made to the coaching industry, “We were the first to introduce a strict no supplement policy for single rooms back in 1984 and that is something we continue to this day. It always seemed wrong to me to punish single people by charging extra - and many operators have followed our example over subsequent years.”
Since that day, Grand UK Holidays has never charged additional supplements for single bedded rooms on a mainland UK coach holiday and we never will! We value our solo travellers and thousands of single people travel with us every year, not only because of the lack of supplement, but also our specially for singles holidays.
Just for Singles
Our ‘Just for Singles’ holidays offer the perfect opportunity to relax on a safe and happy holiday with new found friends.
Paul continued discussing the challenges with contracting singles holidays, “The challenge is trying to persuade hoteliers to offer up twin and double rooms for single occupancy. Thank goodness we have the best Hotel Contracts team in the business!
Many single people are single through choice - as opposed to being widowed for example – and we are always trying to find ways to open up spare hotel capacity so that we can offer single accommodation across our regular product range throughout the year.”
Our ‘Just for Singles’ holidays offer destinations in the UK and Europe, where it’s often harder to get no single room supplement, so if you are looking to holiday further afield, you should take a look at this range. We’re sure you’ll enjoy travelling on one of our holidays with like-minded people, unlocking some of the best scenery and attractions in the UK and Europe.
