Things to do in Blackpool and places to visit nearby

Blackpool Tower, Circus and Ballroom
Blackpool Tower, Circus and Ballroom

The Blackpool Tower is the most famous and recognised monument on Blackpool's seafront, having stood tall over the Fylde Coast for nearly 125 years.

The Tower Circus, located at the tower's base, offers a one-of-a-kind blend of entertainment, excitement, and extraordinary feats of skill and bravery performed by entertainers from all over the world.

The Blackpool Tower Ballroom is noted for its distinctive sprung dance floor and magnificent architecture.

The instant you open the doors to the ballroom, you feel as if you've been transported back in time; everything is well-preserved and maintained.
Blackpool Piers
Blackpool Piers

Blackpool has three piers: North, Central, and South, all of which provide a variety of activities and attractions.

Blackpool North Pier is one of the few existing instances of Birch's classic pier construction, and it is a Grade II listed structure. Blackpool's South Pier is home to a variety of entertainment and thrill rides.

The Central Pier, located in the middle of the Blackpool Promenade and across from the Blackpool Tower, houses a variety of fair rides and amusements, the biggest attraction being the huge wheel, which is 33 metres (108 feet) tall.
Stanley Park, Blackpool
Stanley Park, Blackpool

Stanley Park is a Grade II* listed property on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

The park was founded by Sir George Edward Villers Stanley, hence the name. The Garden of Remembrance commemorates the park's role as an airport during World War II.

Other amenities include a wonderful bandstand on the lake's edge with 'amphitheatre'-style seating overlooking the lake, as well as paddle boat rentals on the lake.
Blackpool Illuminations
Blackpool Illuminations

The Blackpool illuminations are a stunning spectacle that includes over 1,000,000 bulbs, hundreds of lit figures and themes, and fifty miles of festoon strip.

You can walk through the illuminations, drive, or take a tram to immerse yourself in this amazing light extravaganza, which includes displays on the tower, the ocean liner, the lit tram, and the lights down the promenade for several miles.
The Lake District
The Lake District

The Lake District must be one of the most popular and picturesque locations in the British Isles.

The sight and sound of water are never far away, giving a magical and serene atmosphere that pulls people back again and again.

Windermere is undoubtedly the most well-known of the Lake District's gems, but with so many lovely lakes, meandering lanes, and tranquil towns, it's no surprise that Wordsworth found inspiration here.
Lytham St Annes
Lytham St Annes

Though not as busy as Blackpool, Lytham St Annes is a charming seaside resort with miles of sandy beaches, colourful beach huts, a charming promenade Victorian pier, and lots of peaceful gardens.
Southport
Southport

With its well-designed parks, renowned Lord Street, excellent dining options, three theatres, a museum, and an art gallery, Southport is a sophisticated resort that offers plenty of entertainment options.
Morecambe
Morecambe

With its expansive parks and fountains, Morecambe boasts one of the best views of any English seaside town from its promenade, including a breathtaking expanse of bay and shoreline.

The most well-known feature is a statue honouring Eric Morecambe, one of the region's most well-known sons.
