Things to do in Liverpool

Ferry on the Mersey
Ferry on the Mersey

This 50-minute iconic ferry, which was made famous by the 1964 song "Ferry Cross the Mersey" by Gerry and the Pacemakers, is a leisurely way to enjoy some of the best views of Liverpool's historic waterfront from a waterborne vantage point.

Regular departures for Mersey Ferries take place from the Pier Head Ferry Terminal, which is located next to the well-known Liver Building on the waterfront of the Mersey River.

The trip features recorded commentary, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and a small snack shop in case you need a quick bite to eat or a drink.
Beatles Story
Beatles Story

The Beatles Story is a permanent exhibition located on the UNESCO World Heritage waterfront at the Royal Albert Dock that provides a complete, detailed, and intriguing account of the band's ascent to global fame.

Detailing their classic albums, amazing live performances, and the band's ultimate breakup.

You will also find reconstructions of the Cavern and the Yellow Submarine!
Royal Albert Dock
Royal Albert Dock

The Royal Albert Docks, a refurbished area of Liverpool that is only a short walk from the city centre, and blends historic and modern elements creating a uniquely vibrant atmosphere.

There are many intriguing museums, gorgeous buildings, and tempting bars and restaurants with amazing views of the city and Liver Building.
Sefton Parks
Sefton Parks

Sefton Park is a vast green space with lots of trees and walking routes that provide a tranquil, forest haven.

There are numerous photo opportunities in this area, including fountains, statues, waterfalls, a lovely lake, a bandstand, the Palm House (museum), and a Victorian glasshouse.

A small cafe serving coffee, sweet pastries, and ice cream is also there, along with toilet facilities.
Liverpool Cathedral
Liverpool Cathedral

The oldest portions of Liverpool Cathedral are only a century or so old, but because of its Gothic architecture, it appears older.

On a sunny day, the stained glass windows inside the cathedral illuminate the sunlight, creating a rainbow of colours on the interior walls.

Take the lift (and 108 stairs) to the bell tower's top for the greatest views over Liverpool city. The Lady Chapel, located downstairs, is another attraction honouring notable women from history by having their pictures engraved onto the windows.
Liverpool Museums & Galleries
Liverpool Museums & Galleries

Liverpool hosts the most museums and art galleries in Britain (outside of London). A few popular examples include:

  • The Merseyside Maritime Museum, commemorates Liverpool's seafaring history as a global gateway.
  • The World Museum is the largest and oldest of the national museums Liverpool, where visitors may discover treasures from all over the world, experience outer space, and meet living animals.
  • The Walker Art Gallery holds one of England's largest art collections.
  • Mendips is the childhood home of Beatles singer and songwriter John Lennon. Visitors can still see the house and grounds as they were when Lennon lived there, and the property still feels like a real home.
